I don't find it difficult to write, just hard to guess what standards others apply. We live in a world where people like to believe that they are liberal and liberated but for many the opposite is true. With censorship and thought manipulation rife, it is difficult to strike the balance. Personally I think explicit writing in mainstream fiction is perfectly normal, though the very extreme perhaps has a better home in specialist works.

I know what you mean, X... I get a bit belligerent about writing things the way they are, but at the same time, it has to be accessible for other people. Saying that, though, I used to find writing sex scenes really hard (never had a problem with violence, though... don't know what that says about me!) until someone challenged me to write something really filthy - it took me three nights, I blushed all the way through it, and was the single most liberating writing experience of my life. I certainly wouldn't go quite into that much detail in a 'real' story, but for a writing exersize, it was a real breath of fresh air for me! I really do recommend it... ;)

I agree. My recently completed novel has explicit sexual scenes, not excessive by any means but for mass-market appeal there are always concerns

I didn't think this group was active, it looks like it is springing back to life.

Heya Agent X - it's always good to have a place to test out the more explicit parts of a story, be is sex or violence ;)
