XMRV RETRO VIRUS

Published by: Weens on 6th Dec 2009 | View all blogs by Weens

A laboratory in the USA has found the cause of ME/CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) 95% of all people tested, showed that they had this retro virus. The difference between a retro virus and any other kind of virus, is that a retro virus does not go away. They are already starting research to look for a cure. What are they doing in the UK? Absolutely nothing. I know that most of you won't really be interested in this, but if you are, here is a clip from an American TV programme.

Just watched the vid. Wow. This is far worse than I thought. At least they're now recognising it as a serious disease and doing studies etc. Let's hope a cure won't be far behind.

That is an extremely interesting clip. It is frightening that this virus actually becomes part of your own DNA. I hope that they can find a cure soon. It must be a nightmare to live with.

Fascinating, Edwina. I'd heard that it often presented after a viral infection, so maybe this is what triggers the retro-virus into action. Isn't biology amazing? Even if there's no immediate cure, it must be a small relief to know there's now clinical evidence that it's not all in your head. If you know what you're fighting, then I hope there's more chance of winning.

Edwina, one of my friends had ME for over ten years and it reached the stage where she spent a long time in bed and had to use a wheelchair to get about. She then discovered The Lightning Process, and said it enabled her to start getting better. Last year she climbed a mountain in Wales and she now considers herself to be cured. She told me to spread the word! If it appeals to you, here is a link to the site: http://www.lightningprocess.com/what-is-it.aspx

I think the scariest bit of that was the graphic which showed how they think the retro virus 'injects' its DNA into your own to become part of you. I have two friends who have had this terrible illness. One, who developed it in her teens is now, some ten years on, leading an almost normal life. The other got it when she was in her early twenties and went through long periods when she could do very little; walked with a stick and sometimes crutches; couldn't do her computer programming work. Her boyfriend was extremely supportive and eventually, after some years she felt well enough to get married and now a couple of years on she is epecting her first baby. She's not fully recovered, but is certainly improving. So things can and will get better.

I used to work in a virology department and we all specialise in our own fields; mine was vaccinia virus. I know some others working on retroviruses like picornavirus or others. I left ages ago and don't know who's doing wht now. Certainly we are restrained by money available for research and there are some other areas which I thought could do with less money, like equine herpes virus, but if the rich sheiks and racing consortiums want you to spend thime on that, then that's that. I am happy I'm just counting flies nowadays.

Interesting video Edwina, I hope that it continues to gain more research and funding into finding more ways to help / cure. On a side note, I hate doctors that are ignorant and try and force it off onto their patients.
